In this 75-minute class, friend of Peddler Lisa Lin will show you how to make vegetable potstickers to welcome in The Year of the Ox. Lisa will demonstrate various ways to pleat the dumplings and how to make a sweet chili dipping sauce. Finally, she'll also show you how to make a dumpling skirt (dumpling lace), a thin and crispy tuile-like layer attached to the fried dumplings. The event will be hosted by Peddler Editor Hetty McKinnon, who will be cooking along with Lisa while also chatting about what the Lunar New Year means to both their families and to the many communities who celebrate it. This is a fundraising class to raise money for organizations serving Chinatowns in San Francisco and New York City. 100% of funds will be donated to: In SF: Be Chinatown - Be Chinatown has been serving the SF Chinatown community for several years. During COVID-19, the organization helped Chinatown businesses apply for loans and ran a toy drive for SRO (single room occupancy) residents. For 2021 Lunar New Year, Be Chinatown is working with Chinatown restaurants to provide new year's meals to residents of SROs. In NYC: Heart of Dinner - Founded at the onset of COVID-19, Heart of Dinner works to fight food insecurity and isolation experienced by Asian American seniors—two long-standing community issues heightened by the pandemic. They now serve 1,500+ elders in Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, delivering weekly hot lunches, fresh produce, and bulk ingredients while supporting local small businesses during their COVID-related recovery process.
